Over the last 5 years CLS has assembled a large fleet of boats, most by donation.

The saying in sailing competition is "The small boats train the champs,” and CLS has two types of ideal small boats to train our champs:

SUNFISH  Sunfish is the most popular fiberglass boat ever designed, easy to rig, trailer, and sail.  It also is easy to right after capsizing, and can plane at above theoretical hull speeds going down wind.   While popular for general sailing, this one design also has a robust international competition.  And with our cut down sails, it has proven to be a great boat for youth lessons.

OPTI's (Optimists):  Opti's are one of the most popular beginning sailing boats since they are small (8') slow, stable and have a relatively small sail.  Opti's are the biggest youth racing class in the world.

Boston Whaler Harpoons:  these larger, drier, and stable sailboats are ideal for adult lessons.

HOBIE CAT:  This popular catamaran provides high adrenalin rush in big winds.

NEW IN 2017:  4 LASERS!

We also have 3 BOSTON WHALER SAFETY/INSTRUCTOR boats.  (One with a new, gas-efficient motor acquired in 2016 courtesy of a generous grant from the Petoskey Harbor springs Area Community Foundation. )

And we are fortunate to have a real wood classic:  a 1950 Thistle.  A gem!

Many Thanks to all who have donated a boat or equipment to the CLS, and those who help maintain these boats.
